An updated version of Carver’s original 36 Mariner built back in the 1980s, the 36 Mariner (called the 350 Mariner in 2004) combines the spacious single-level interior of her predecessor with improved styling and a surprisingly good turn of speed. By any standard, this is a big 36-footer with the ability to entertain a small crowd without being crowded. Her full-beam salon features a posh Ultraleather lounge and dinette, high-gloss cherry woodwork and a full entertainment center with TV and stereo CD. The extra-large head includes a separate stall shower, and the galley has plenty of storage and counter space. Topside, flanking stairways lead from the cockpit to the enormous bridge where port and starboard lounges and an aft bench seat can seat up to ten guests. Twin transom lockers house fenders and lines, keeping the small cockpit clear of miscellaneous clutter. Air conditioning, generator, flybridge wet bar, swim ladder and transom shower were all standard. A wide beam and modest transom deadrise make the Mariner a notably stable boat, but a stiff ride when the seas pick up. Crusader 375hp V-drive inboards (gas) cruise at 20 knots (26–27 knots wide open).
